The fourth edition of the annual Quranic competition organised by Ilerioluwa Organisation and Penckers School, Lagos, in honour of late Alhaja Wasilat Olaronke Ayinde-Marshal was not without its usual panache as people from all walks of life including top politicians and businessmen thronged the Penckers School Venue of the event.
As explained by the Host and chairman of Isolo LCDA, Olasoju Adebayo, the impetus behind the yearly event was to celebrate and preserve the loving memories, virtues and other godly attributes of the late AlhajaWasilatOlaronke Ashabi Ayinde-Marahal, daughter of Fuji maestro, Olasunkanmi Ayinde-Marshal, and, as well, promote piety and act of knowing Almighty Allah.
This yearโs edition recorded little over 100 entries for the two usual categories (Al-Ahqaaf to An-Nass and Complete Memorisation of the Holy Quran) aside a new category which was exclusive for Students of Daaru Dawat Wal Irshad Arabic Institute. The category dealt with accuracy inย recitation of the holy Quran with the most sonorous voice.
The trio of AbdulAzeez Asmau, Zainab Oreagba and Faosan Kasali emerged winner, first runner-up and second runner-up in the Junior category winning for themselves N500,000, N250,000 and N150,000 respectively.
Coming top in the senior category after an intense duel was AbdulRahmanArogundade who emerged winner of the N1,000,000 star prize. The first and second-runners up; Yusuf Kabbab and Niโmah Ariyo smiled home with N500,000 and N250,000, respectively.
In the new category which was reserved for student of the Arabic institute, AbdulquadriRaimioloye mesmerized the Egyptian judges and the audience with his flawless recitation of random verses and his melodious voice to win an all-expense-paid trip pilgrimage to Mecca. Coming close to beating Abdulquadri was the only female finalist, Aishat Sholola who was considered for similar prize by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) President Hopeful, Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya fondly called MC Oluomo as the other two finalists also picked consolation prizes.
As usual, other participants and attendees were given mouth-watering prizes such as standing fans, clothing materials, food items and cash among others.
The Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA, Hon. Fatai Ayoola, in his address, underscored the importance of such competition addding that it will promote Islamic knowledge and guide faithful especially the youths in the way of Almighty Allah as he commended his counterpart for coming up with the initiative.
Also, His Royal Majesty; Oba Kabiru Alani Adelaja Agbabiaka Adeola II, the Osolo of Osolo alongside, the chairperson of Iru-Victoria Island LCDA, Hon. (Princess) Rasheedat. Abiodun Adu, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya among others dignitaries took turns to pleasurably heap praises on the council chairman for the event.
As expected, the program featured special prayers for the deceased which was led by the Mudeer of Daaru Dawat Wal Irshad Arabic Institute, Sheikh Ridwan Sanusi-Zuglool. Not stopping at the special dua, the religious leader commended the council boss for the annual event and its yearly improvement as he subtly urged the council honcho to consider converting to Islam.
In his remarks, a sibling of the deceased, Ibrahim Abiola Ayinde-Marshal expressed appreciation on behalf of the family for the honour accorded their late sister whom he described as an exemplary Muslim.
Other dignitaries in attendance included the Secretary to the councilโs cabinet members led by the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) Hon. Sikiru Adeshina Salisu, the Council Treasurer, Alhaja Sherifat Omotara, Vice Chairman of Eti-Osa LGA, Princess Adeola Adetoro, Chief Imam of Isolo, Alhaji Qasim Ajiyan, Professor Raheemson; provost AUD College of Education, Councillors representing Akinbaiye and Apena Wards, Hon Idris Amusa and Hon Yusuf Agbabiaka, respectively, Alhaja Fatimah Hamzat, Sheikah Zinat Kalejaiye and, the leadership and members of Ilerioluwa Women’s wing among others.
Born on July 13, 1983, Late AlhajaWasilat Ayinde-Marshal was the second daughter of the Fuji maestro and Mayegun of Yoruba Land. She died on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in Canada after a brief illness.
