The 4U Signature supermarket, which is situated in the Wuse neighbourhood of Abuja, has been raided by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
On Thursday, an enforcement team headed by FCCPC acting executive vice chair Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi visited the supermarket. Afterward, the store was raided.
Before the raid, on April 17, the FCCPC asked Nigerians to report companies that were raising their prices. They claimed that even though the value of the naira was strengthening relative to the US dollar, the cost of goods was still rising.
The commission said it will monitor and investigate price hikes in the markets to protect consumers from exploitation.
The FCCPC said it was aware of the concerns expressed by Nigerians regarding the continued rise in prices of goods and services.
On February 16, FCCPC sealed Sahad Stores, a supermarket located in the Garki area of Abuja for engaging in “misleading pricing and a lack of transparency in pricing.”.
