Nigerian social media crusader Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has reportedly been arrested again by the Nigerian Police force.
Verydarkman, previously arrested and released by the police months ago on allegations of defamation, found himself back in hot water with authorities after releasing a viral video that set social media ablaze. In the video, he appeared in a costume resembling a police uniform, introducing himself as the self-proclaimed “CSP of the Online Division”.
The police viewed the gesture as an unauthorized misuse of official attire, swiftly condemning it and launching an investigation. Verydarkman was called to the station to clarify his actions. He complied, offered explanations and issued a formal apology in hopes of diffusing the situation, yet the fallout from his satire seems far from over.
Dkokopee, known as VDM’s closest friend and ally, took to social media with a message that shook the online community. In a sorrowful and impassioned post, Dkokopee revealed that Verydarkman was again taken into police custody, this time he claimed with more severity and a sense of unresolved vendetta.
According to Dkokopee, the police went as far as escorting VDM back to his residence, insisting on a thorough search for the alleged “police uniform” he used in the video.
He averred that despite Verydarkman’s attempts to clear their suspicions and address the accusations, the police remained unyielding, refused to grant him release. He disclosed that Verydarkman would remain in police custody overnight and is expected to be charged in court the following day.
Dkokopee lamented the police’s harsh treatment of his friend, called it an assault on someone fighting to expose corruption and champion a more transparent system.
