In an effort to create safer and more informed communities about sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency’s Community Engagement Team held a sensitization session for members of the Community Development Councils (CDCs) and Community Development Associations (CDAs) in Ifako-Ijaye, Itire Ikate, Coker Aguda, and Surulere.
The Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, was represented at the event by Mr. Damilare Adewusi, Head of Community Engagement, who provided the residents with a thorough discussion on matters pertaining to SGBV, legal frameworks, and appropriate reporting methods.
Mr. Samuel Olu Opajobi, the CDC chairman, urged all the participants to report incidents of SGBV and utilize the free and available support services that the State government is providing through the Agency.
He emphasized the importance of community members being well-informed to combat the prevalence of SGBV in the State.
The Active participation from the audience prompted more prolific discussions and clarification of concerns.
Furthermore, in collaboration with His Royal Highness Oba Abdul Lateef Adams, Abiodun 1 (Onikate of Surulere), the Agency extended Community Engagement to Itire Ikate, Coker Aguda, and Surulere to raise awareness among community members.
Prince Moruf Aribidesi, representing the Oba, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for bringing awareness to their community and encouraged community members to speak out against violence.
Also present were CDC Chairman of Itire Ikate LCDA, Engr Fatai Adeshina Adelani, and Vice Chairman of Coker Aguda, Hon Ogunmola Anthony.
