The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has halted all filming in riverine areas following the death of actor Junior Pope.
Pope, whose true name is John Paul Odonwodo, plunged into the River Niger in Asaba, Delta state, on his way to a filming location on Wednesday.
There were reportedly a couple additional actors with him.
AGN national secretary Abubakar Yakubu stated that the actor died as a result of the boat accident.
A few hours later, Yakubu said the actor “was alive but in a coma”.
But on Thursday morning, Emeka Rollas, president of the AGN, confirmed the death of Pope.
Rollas, who had earlier announced that Pope was “alive”, said: “My first post was out of excitement when we noticed his tingling fingers”.
In a follow-up statement, the AGN president said the production of the movie titled ‘Another Side of Life’, which the crew members were going to before losing their lives, has also been suspended.
The AGN president also instructed that no one should work with Adamma Luke, the producer of the movie, “until further notice”.
